Ingredients: 2 1/2 oz. gin (Beefeater, Bombay Sapphire) 1/2 oz. dry vermouth 3 olives or a lemon twist for garnish

Directions:STIRRED:
Pour the ingredients into a large mixing glass filled with ice cubes.
Stir for 30 seconds.
Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with 3 olives on a cocktail pic or with the lemon twist.
or SHAKEN:
Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker on top of ice.
Shake until frost develops on the outside of the shaker.

THIS IS THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS COCKTAIL. It was originally made with gin and some believe in order to be a "true" martini it must be gin. However, here are some variations.
ALTERNATES:
Vodka martini -- substitute the gin for a good quality of vodka (Gray Goose, Belvedere)
Bone Dry or Desert Martini -- No vermouth
Dirty Martini -- Add a small amount of olive brine from the jar of olives
Quality counts. The key to a great martini is to begin with great ingredients. There are only 2 ingredients in this cocktail and if one of them is inferior it will bring down the entire drink.
