Even though he was the main cook in his home, I don’t have or know any of his recipes. So here is a different kind of recipe, the recipe for making memories. Grandpa Homer died before my third birthday, but somehow I still have access to my two-year-old memories. One memory of a recurring event: sitting in his backyard with him at his picnic table in the afternoons eating chocolate chip ice cream. The impact of food and one on one time with a loved family member is pretty powerful. And I wonder why ice cream is my weakness.
