1 package dates (8-ounces)
½ teaspoon soda
1 cup boiling water
1 egg beaten
1 cup sugar
1½ cup flour sifted
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Cut dates into small pieces. Dissolve soda in boiling water and pour over dates. Let stand 15 minutes. Add well beaten egg. Mix dry ingredients. Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients, and stir only enough to moisten. Add vanilla and chopped nuts. Pour into greased loaf pan and bake at 325° for 1 to 1½ hours.
