1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup shortening
1 egg
1 cup baking molasses
1 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. salt
¾ cup hot, black coffee
¼ cup hot water
3 tsp. baking soda
5 cups sifted flour

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cream sugar, shortening and egg thoroughly. Add molasses, spices and salt. Mix thoroughly. Combine black coffee, hot water and soda. Stir to dissolve. Add to creamed mixture alternately with flour. Drop by tablespoons onto well-greased cookie sheet. Bake 12 – 15 minutes.
