1/2 c shortening
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
2 oz red food coloring
2 T cocoa
1 tsp salt
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 c flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Make a paste of coloring and cocoa and add to mixture. Add buttermilk with salt, alternating with flour and vanilla. Last, add soda and vinegar and bake at 350 for 30 minutes in 2 9" layer pans.
