⅔ cup shortening
½ cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
1 egg beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cup flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar, brown sugar.
Add egg and vanilla.
Put dry ingredients into flour and sift into the creamed mixture, stirring as you go.
Add nuts and chocolate chips.
Stir to mix well or use your clean hands to mix.
Roll dough into balls and place on baking sheet.
Bake about 10-12 minutes in a 350º oven.
Let the pan cool a few minutes, then use spatula to move cookies to paper towels on a counter to finish cooling.

This is the recipe we used when we were growing up. It was in a cookbook that Mom had. We hardly ever made a single batch...mostly doubled it.
I have no idea how many it would make if you didn't eat part of the dough.
