1½ C. SUGAR
1¼ C. HEAVY CREAM
1 TSP VANILLA

IN A SMALL SAUCEPAN, COMBINE WATER AND SUGAR. BRING TO BOIL AND BRING TO 350º. DO NOT STIR AFTER SUGAR IS DISSOLVED. LOWER HEAT TO LOW AND STIR IN REMAINING INGREDIENTS. CONTINUE COOKING UNTIL MIXTURE IS SMOOTH.

Our school lunchroom served this sauce on spice cake. When I graduated, I got the recipe from the head cook, Mrs. Bartlett. It's good on ice cream, too.
