1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal
1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1-1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg slightly beaten with fork
1-1/4 cups buttermilk
2 Tbs bacon grease for muffin pan or skillet prep (melted)

Mix all dry ingredients together. Put bacon grease in muffin pan (or skillet) in 400º oven for about 5 minutes until bacon grease melts. Pour cornbread in hot skillet or muffin pan. Bake for about 20 minutes until lightly browned

Traditional Family Recipe . Cornbread was a staple in Momoo's kitchen since wheat was not grown locally. The main meal was at noon so the night meal consisted of left overs or cornbread in a glass of buttermilk. Cornbread is my favorite bread - especially with purple hull peas on top!
