½ cup boiling water
2 squares chocolate
1 teaspoon soda
1 ½ cups cake flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup butter
½ cup sour milk
2 eggs, well beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour pans. Stir boiling water and chocolate until thick; add soda and let cool. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add butter, sour milk and beat 2 minutes. Add chocolate mixture, eggs and vanilla; beat 2 more minutes. Pour into prepared pans. Bake in two 8-inch layer pans 35-40 minutes or in one oblong pan 40-45 minutes. Frost with chocolate frosting.
