Cookies:
½ cup soft shortening (Crisco)
1 cup brown sugar, packed
½ cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 cup undiluted evaporated milk
1 tsp vanilla
2¾ cups flour, sifted
½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
Optional add-ins: 1 cup coconut, nuts, finely cut dates or raisins, if desired

Burnt Butter Glaze:
½ cube butter (not margarine!)
2 cups powdered sugar
Approximately 1/4 cup evaporated milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cookies: Heat oven to 375º. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs. Stir in milk and vanilla. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Blend in remaining ingredients. Chill. Drop with a spoon 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake until a light touch with finger leaves no imprint, about 10 minutes.

Glaze: Heat butter until golden brown. Beat in, until smooth, powdered sugar and evaporated milk (to desired consistency).
