1 cup sugar
½ cup buttermilk
½ tsp baking soda

Directions:
Melt butter in large pot under medium-high heat. Stir often. When butter is mostly melted, add sugar and corn syrup; stir until smooth. Mix in buttermilk; stir constantly until syrup changes from a yellow to a light amber color and a bubbly foam forms on top. Continue to stir until syrup comes to a rolling boil. Mix in vanilla and when mixture comes to a full boil again, remove from heat. Quickly add baking soda. Be prepared for syrup to foam and more than double in size. A large pot is essential! Syrup may be stored in the refrigerator and reheated.
