Ingredients:

1 ½ cups sugar
¾ cup shortening
2 eggs
1 ½ cup sour milk or cream (can substitute with milk to which you add 1 tsp. vinegar)
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.
Cream sugar and shortening.
Add eggs and blend.
To the creamed mixture, add alternating sifted dry ingredients and the sour milk.
In other words, mix by adding half of the milk and half of the dry ingredients, then add the rest of the milk and the rest of the dry ingredients.
When the dough is mixed, roll into rolls and slice off about a ½ inch section to place on cookie sheet.
Bake at 350º for about 12 minutes or until golden brown on the bottom.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Aunt Ida was a tiny woman married to Grandma Dean's uncle Toots Lattin (real name Melvin). They had a place just north of Pagosa where I'd go to visit as a girl and get to ride on uncle Toots' work horses that he used to get logs out of the forest near their house.
