1½ cups sugar
½ cup shortening
2 eggs
4 tablespoons buttermilk or sour milk
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup mashed banana
2 cups flour
1 cup nuts of your choice, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Add milk and bananas. Sift flour, add baking soda and salt, and add to other mixture, along with nuts. Mix well. Bake in greased 9x12 pan at 325º until brown.

To make milk sour, add 1 teaspoon vinegar to ½ cup milk.
To make buttermilk, add 1 tablespoon lemon juice to 1 cup milk and let stand for 5-10 minutes.

This was my Grandmother's recipe. She made this all the time. It has a cake texture instead of bread texture.
