1 cup dates
1 cup water
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
2 Tbsp cocoa
1¾ cups flour
¾ cup nuts
1 (6 oz) package chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Chop dates, pour 1 cup of boiling water over them and let stand. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift flour, salt, soda and cocoa. Add dry ingredients alternately with dates and water to creamed mixture; stir until smooth. Put in greased floured 9X13X2-inch pan. Sprinkle top with chocolate chips and nuts. Bake for 45 minutes at 350º. No icing required.
