2cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
¼ cup shortening
¾ cup buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450º

Combine flour,baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Cut in shortening.
Stir in buttermilk.
Knead dough gently.
Roll out to ½ inch thickness.
Cut with 2½ inch diameter cutter

Place on baking sheet and bake for 10 - 15 minutes until golden brown.

"Mom" is Kathryn's mother, Ada Baxter. Keep in mind that Ada was raised in a Mennonite community in Indiana. She lived in Minnesota with her husband, George, so depending on your altitude, the recipe may need tweaking.
