Ingredients: 1 package dark raisins 1 package golden raisins 1 package dates, chopped 2 jars fruit mix 1 jar candied cherries 1 jar candied pineapple 1 pound nuts - do not cut up Small gum drops (optional) 1 cup butter 1½ cup brown sugar 6 eggs 1 tsp salt ½ tsp soda 2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp all spice 1 Tbsp molasses ½ cup jam ½ cup fruit juice 3 cups flour, divided

Directions:Preheat oven to 275º and place a pan of water on a lower rack in the oven and leave there while loaves bake. Mix together raisins, dates, fruit mix, candied cherries and pineapple, nuts and gum drops and mix with 1 cup of flour. In another bowl, mix butter, sugar, eggs, seasonings, jam and fruit juice with remaining 2 cups of flour. Pour over fruit mixture; stir. Fill loaf pans ½ full. Bake loaves at 275º for 2½ to 3 hours. Makes 6 small loaves. |

Notes: Susy: My dad was forever trying to replicate Grandma Sybil's fruitcake. This recipe was mailed to him from Jean Smith, postmarked Dec 29th, with a note that said: "Dear Brother and Sister Cox, That was so good of you to come over and share some of your time and talents with us before Christmas. Thanks for the fruit and peanut brittle. We sure are glad you live here in Moreland. We hope you have a good year in '84. Love, John and Jean" Well, after reading that nice note, I had to include the recipe in our book!
