Mix together:
1 cup butter
1½ cup sugar
2 eggs

Sift together:
2 ⅔ cups flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp soda
½ tsp salt

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. Mix together wet ingredients. Sift together dry ingredients, then combine together until dough is formed. Chill dough. Roll into balls the size of walnuts. Roll balls in mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Place cookies about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until lightly brown but soft.

This recipe is from Gabby's great-great aunt. Gabby's grandma passed the recipe down to us and in her notes she says she does not chill the dough, so that may be optional depending on how gooey it is when rolling it into balls. No doubt my great-aunt did not need a recipe to make these which is probably why the baking time is not noted. I would approximate baking time at about 12 minutes, but keep checking until you think they look good.
