2 pounds stew meat, cut into 2 inch cubes
1 linguisa link, cut into 1/2 inch slices
1 ring Hillshire Farms beef sausage, cut lengthwise and then into 1 inch slices
1 32 ounce carton beef broth
4 cups water
1 large white or yellow onion, chopped
6 cloves garlic, minced
2 packages frozen mixed vegetables
2 small bunches kale, washed thoroughly and shredded
1/2 head cabbage, shredded
1 can kidney beans
1 can cut tomatoes
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
4 teaspoons Italian seasoning or to taste
Salt and black pepper to taste

In large frying pan, heat olive oil and sauté stew meat on high until brown on the outside. Add sausages and fry until brown. Add browned meats to soup pot and cover with 4 inches water. Add beef broth and all other ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer until done, about 1 hour, adjusting seasonings all the while. Serve with French bread and butter.

Grandpa Sam used to make this soup often for all of us when you kids were small. I have fond memories of going to his and Grandma Jackie's house for dinner on cool fall nights for this family favorite. He taught me how to make it, but somehow it has never tasted as good as his does.
