1 c. red wine
½ c. water
⅛ tsp. black pepper
2 cloves of garlic, peeled and sliced
2 tsp. salt
2 bay leaves
6 lb. beef brisket, first cut

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325º.

Line roaster pan with foil. Place brisket in pan. Pour all ingredients on top.

Cover with foil, seal tightly. Bake at 325º for 3-3½ hours. Meat should pierce easily.
Carve against the grain.

This can be made ahead. Carve, wrap well and freeze. Thaw and reheat.

Grandma Joan uses Passover wine, but you can use any red wine, or substitute any liquid. Aunt Helen makes a version of this using coca cola.
