4 cups flour
3/4 cups sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp salt
1 cup cold butter (2 sticks)
1 egg
1 cup plain yogurt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F.
In large bowl, mix together dry ingredients.
Using a pastry cutter (or two knives) but the butter into the dry ingredients.
Keep cutting in until the butter is pea-sized chunks.
Add wet ingredients (yogurt and egg) to dry ingredients and mix until combined.
Gently knead the dough until the flour is incorporated.
Divide dough in half and shape each into a disc shape.
Cut each disc into 8 even wedges.
Place on parchment-lined sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until the scones just start to turn golden on the bottom.

This is a basic scone recipe that you can add to. Fruit (peaches, blueberries) lemon or orange zest, nuts, chocolate chips, etc. can be added to the dough. If icing, the basic glaze is 1 1/2 cups icing sugar, 2 tbs butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla and enough milk to make the required consistency (depending whether you are icing or drizzling). You can also flavour the glaze, i.e. orange juice, vanilla bean paste, maple syrup or maple extract - the sky is the limit.
