2 1/2 cup flour, unsifted
3/4 cup sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cardamom
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup chilled butter
1 cup creamed cottage cheese
1 egg
1/2 tsp grated lemon peel
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup raisins
1/3 cup slivered almonds

3 tbsp melted butter, divided
1/4 cup sugar for sprinkling on top

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.
Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, cardamom, and salt together in a large bowl.

Cut butter into the dry mixture, until coarse crumbs form. Mix cheese, egg, and vanilla in a bowl, then add it to the large bowl mixture, along with the nuts and raisins.

Turn out onto a floured board and knead about 10 times, adding more flour if too sticky. Dough should be soft.

Form dough into a 10 inch circle, brush with melted butter. Fold in half, sightly off center. Place on a parchment lined cookie sheet.

Bake for 45- 50 minutes. Brush with more melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
