2 c. granulated sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
3 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup butter
2 eggs
6 c. all purpose flour
½ c. buttermilk

Ingredients for filling
16 oz. dried apples * Spiced dried apples make the best filling for this cake.
1 ½ tsp. ground cinnamon
½ tsp. ground cloves
½ ground allspice
1 c. light brown sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven 400º.
Cake-Cream the granulated sugar and butter together. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Measure flour, sift with baking powder and soda; add it to batter alternating with the buttermilk and vanilla.
Divide dough into 6 or 8 parts. Use a floured board to roll into rounds or put into well greased 9 inch pans.
Bake at 400º until browned.

Filling-Mix all ingredients well as you slowly stir until flavors are thoroughly mixed.
When cool, add to top of each layer of cake until stacked high.
