½ cup butter, softened
¼ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2½ cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Blend in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and chill at least one hour.

Heat over to 400º (375º if using non-stick pan). Roll dough ⅛ inch thick on lightly floured cloth-covered board. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 6 - 8 minutes or until very light brown.

This is the recipe we used for all those Christmas cutout cookies we made, an annual tradition I miss. Lots of good memories! Although I usually doubled the recipe, sometimes enthusiasm would wane toward the end of production :) .We usually just decorated them with red and green sugar, but you could, of course, use decorative frosting.
