Ingredients:
Ingredients:
⅔ cup granulated sugar
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
8 large tart apples ( Honey Crisp, Fuji, Staymen) peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
2 tbsp water
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp cold butter- diced into small cubes

½ cup firmly packed brown sugar
½ cup softened butter
1 cup all purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Filling:
Sprinkle sliced apples with water and lemon juice
In large bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Add the apple slices to the sugar mixture and toss to coat evenly

Spread apples in a deep dish pie pan
Drop the butter cubes across the apples

Crumb topping:
** I double the amounts in the topping as I like to have it completely cover the apples but if you want a more crumb look or don't want as much topping keep the original amounts**

Cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy
Add flour about a third at a time and stir until well mixed - it will probably look lumpy ( if using a hand mixer it will get to be a fine crumb texture which is okay but pinch it together some when putting onto the apples so it covers them a bit better)
Drop spoonfuls of the topping onto the apples
Bake about 50-60 minutes. Crust will brown but shouldn't get too dark
