¾ cup shortening
¾ cup butter (softened)
¾ cup granulated sugar
1½ cups brown sugar (packed)
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
3 cups + 6 tbl. flour
1½ tsp. soda
1½ tsp. salt
2 cups (12 oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1½ cups chopped nuts

Directions:

Cream together shortening, butter, sugars, vanilla and eggs. Stir in flour, soda, salt mixing well. Add chocolate pieces and nuts. Drop from tablespoonful onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes or until light brown.

Who doesn't remember going to Great Grandma's house for her delicious Chocolate Chip Cookies? She always had some on hand. They were melt-in-your-mouth-to-die-for when they came out of the oven, but she always kept some in the freezer "just for emergencies" when people dropped by for coffee. This is my favorite of her recipes.
