1½ cups of butter softened
1 cup of sugar
1 egg
1 tsp of vanilla extract
3½ cups all-purpose flour
Colored sugar or sprinkles (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 375º.

2. Beat butter and sugar on medium speed of electric mixer about 3 minutes or until creamy, scraping down sides as necessary.

3. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well.

4. Add flour; mix on low speed just until blended, scraping down sides as necessary.

5. Dough will be soft. Do not refrigerate.

6. Fit cookie press with desired disk.

7. Press cookies onto cookie sheet, 1 inch apart.

8. Decorate cookies with colored sugar or sprinkles.

9. Bake cookies 10-12 minutes or until edges are light golden brown.

10. Cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes before removing to wire rack.

11. Repeat with remaining dough.

Chocolate spritz cookies - increase sugar to 1 and 1 quarter cups. Decrease flour to 3 cups. Combine flour and 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder in medium bowl; blend well. Proceed as recipe directs.
