"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Aunt Elsie (Larry's aunt, Elsie Moritz) almost always made these old time German Cookies for her family at Christmas time. We could always expect a little bag of them as her gift to us. Although, I've never tried to duplicate this recipe, I am thrilled to be able to add it to this cookbook. She was so proud of her little contribution.
Karen says...
Aunt Elsie said you could put powdered sugar in a bag and shake the cookies in the bag until slightly coated but she never did that step for some reason.
