2 cups of water
1 cups raisins
½ cup shorting
1 cups sugar
1 tsp. soda
2 cups flour
½ tsp. ground cloves
½ tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. nutmeg
½ tsp. allspice
¼ tsp. salt
1 eggs, beaten
½ cup walnuts ( Optional )

Directions:
Directions:
Add water to the raisins and simmer for 10 minutes. add the shorting and allow the mixture to cool.

Sift together the sugar, flour, soda, ground cloves, cinnamon,nutmeg, allspice, salt and add the nuts if desired. To this add the cooled raisin mixture and blend well. Add beaten eggs and stir well.

Bake in a 9" x 9" pan at 350 º for 35 minutes. Check with tooth pick.

Note: Ice this cake with a thick confectioners sugar icing, or cream cheese frosting. (775 calories with Cream cheese frosting, and 675 per slice with Vanilla Butter cream Frosting. There are 12 slices per 9" X 13" pan.)

8 oz. cream cheese... softened
4 tbsp. butter, softened
2 tsp. vanilla
1½ cups confectioners sugar
1 tbsp.lemon juice, fresh walnuts are and option sprinkled on top...your choice.
