1 box Devils Food cake mix
(Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box)
1 stick butter
1/2 can condensed milk
1 bag (14 oz) caramels
6 oz cup chopped pecans
6 oz semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
Ice cream or Whipped cream, if desired
Caramel and chocolate toppings, if desired
Chopped pecans, if desired

Preheat oven to 350°F
Grease & flour or spray bottom of 9"x13" pan.
Prepare cake mix according to directed on box. Pour half of the batter into pan. Bake 15 minutes.
Mean time, in a double boiler combine butter, caramels and condensed milk over medium heat, stirring frequently, until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth. Let cool.
Pour caramel mixture over baked cake.
Spread remaining batter over caramel mixture.
Sprinkle chocolate chips and pecans over batter. Bake 25 to 28 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched. Run knife along sides of pan to loosen cake. Cool at least 30 minutes. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream, drizzle with toppings and sprinkle with pecans.
