4 cups fresh cranberries
2 cups sugar
1 ½ cups water
1 ¾ cups sifted flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
½ cup chopped walnuts
1 cup mashed bananas

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Grease a 9x5x3 loaf pan

Combine cranberries, 2 cups sugar and water in saucepan and heat to boiling point.
Stir until sugar is dissolved.
Continue boiling rapicly until berries pop open. (5 – 10 minutes)
Drain and measure cranberries to make one cup; reserve.
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and soda.
Cream together shortening and 2/3 cup sugar.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Blend in nuts and bananas alternately with dry ingredients.
Fold in reserved cup of drained, cooked cranberries.

Bake for 60 – 65 minutes until done.

Brush top with glaze: ¼ cup water and ¼ cup sugar boiled into a syrup.
Decorate with chopped walnuts.
Let stand in pan for 20 minutes to avoid the top cracking.
