5½ - 6½ cups flour
2 Tbsp yeast
⅓ cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp marjoram
1½ cups milk
½ cup water
½ cup butter
2 whole eggs
1 egg yolk
1⅓ cup wheat germ
1 egg white, beaten
1 Tbsp wheat germ

Preheat oven to 350º

In large mixing bowl combine 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar, salt and herbs. Mix well.
Heat milk, water and butter in saucepan until warm.
Add to flour mixture. Add eggs and egg yolk.
Blend at low speed until moistened. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed.
By hand, gradually stir in 1⅓ cups wheat germ and enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
Knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic.
Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top.
Cover, let rise in warm place until doubled (1 hour).
Roll or pat each piece on a lightly floured surface to a 12”x8” rectangle.
Cut each piece in half lengthwise.
Pinch ends together to form a rope and twist the two lengths together, sealing ends.
Place on baking sheet and cover, let rise 30 minutes
Lightly brush with egg white and sprinkle with wheat germ.
Bake 35 – 45 min. Cover with foil last 10 min.
