1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
4 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. ginger
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt






Spiced Sugar:
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Whisk together dry ingredients. Gradually beat into creamed mixture. Divide dough in half; shape each into an 8 inch long roll. Wrap each roll in plastic wrap; refrigerate 2 hours or until firm. Combine spiced sugar ingredients. Unwrap and cut dough crosswise into 1/4 inch slices. Coat each side with spiced sugar and place on greased baking sheets. Bake at 350ºF for 7 to 9 minutes or until edges are golden. Cool on pans 2 minutes and remove to wire racks to cool completely. Note: Can freeze dough logs and use as needed.
