1 cup chopped dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dates, baking soda and water in saucepan and bring to a boil. Allow to cool. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and beat well. Add to cooled date mixture. Sift flour, soda and salt together and add to batter. Mix well. Pour into greased and floured 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Mix sugar and nuts and sprinkle over batter, then sprinkle with chocolate chips. Bake at 350º for 40-45 minutes or until cake pulls away from the side of the pan. Best when allowed to cool completely.
