Ingredients: Hamburger patties mixture: 1/3 cup chopped onion 2 Tbsp butter 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef 2/3 cup quick or old-fashioned oats, uncooked 1 1/2 tsp salt (less if desired) 1/4 tsp pepper 1/2 tsp crushed basil 2/3 cup milk
Sauce: Vegetable oil 1/3 cup sliced celery 1/4 cup chopped onion 1/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour 2 cups beef broth 1 4-ounce can drained mushroom stems and pieces (draining optional) 3/4 tsp salt 1/8 tsp pepper

Directions:Hamburger Patties: 1. Lightly sauté chopped onion in butter in a large frying pan; remove onion. 2. In large mixing bowl, thoroughly combine rest of hamburger patty ingredients. 3. Shape mixture to form 6 patties - 1 inch thick; lightly coat with flour. 4. Lightly brown hamburgers on both sides in same fry pan used to sauté onion; remove from pan.
Sauce: 5. Add enough vegetable oil to drippings in frying pan to make 2 tablespoons. 6. Lightly saute celery and chopped onions in drippings. 7. Stir in flour. Gradually add beef broth, stirring until smooth. 8. Bring to a boil; simmer 1 minute. 9. Stir in mushroom pieces, salt and pepper. 10. Add hamburgers to sauce; cover and simmer 10 minutes. 11. Serve each hamburger topped with sauce. Place extra sauce in gravy boat and serve with hamburgers.
