2 cups flour
1 tablespoon ground ginger
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
1/3 cup cinnamon sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Sift flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon and salt into a bowl. Stir to blend evenly. Place shortening into a mixing bowl and beat until creamy. Gradually beat in sugars, egg, and dark molasses. Sift 1/3 of the flour mixture into the shortening mixture and blend. Mix in remaining flour mixture and mix until soft dough forms. Roll 1 inch diameter balls between your hands. Roll in cinnamon sugar and place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake until tops are rounded and slightly cracked, about eight to ten minutes. Cool on wire rack.
