Basic Pastry:
1 cup unsalted butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 cups sifted flour

Filling:
5 egg whites
9 oz. slice almonds
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. almond extract
1/2. baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients for basic pastry. Grease a 10x15 inch jelly roll pan. Pat pastry evenly in pan. Refrigerate for 1 hour.

Filling: Combine all ingredients except extract and baking powder in heavy 1 1/2 quart saucepan. Place over low het and stir until mixture reaches 200º. Remove from heat and stirring extract and baking powder. Pour over crust, spreading evenly.

Bake at 350º for about 30 minutes. Cool in pan on rack. When cool, cut into squares the cut into triangles.

Dip edges of each triangle into chocolate coast mad of 4 oz. semisweet chocolate with 2 tablespoons shortening melted over hot (not boiling) water.

Set dipped triangles on racks to dry. Store in an airtight container.
