6 herring fillets
2 cups tomato pure
1/2 cup tomato juice
1/2 cup thinly sliced red onions
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
3 bay leaves
1/2 cup canola oil
1 tablespoon sugar or to taste
1/2 cup half and half cream

Directions:
Directions:
Mix tomato pure, tomato juice, sugar, herbs and spices together.
Add cream gradually while stirring.
Rinse herring fillet dry with paper towels.
Cut fillets diagonally
Layer herring, onions and bay leaves in sanitized glass jar.
Fill jar with prepared sauce. Chill at least 2 hours before serving. For better flavor, chill over night before serving.
