1LB butter (may be 1/2 butter and 1/2 margarine) softened
2 2/3 c. sugar
1 dozen large eggs
6 1/2 c. flour (sifted)
1 tsp. salt (sift with flour)
4 tsp. baking powder (sift with flour)
4 tsp. anise flavor
4 tsp. anise seeds
Split recipe in half for single batch.

Directions:

Combine shortening and sugar and cream them until smooth.
Add eggs 2 at a time at a low speed until creamy.
Add flour 1 cup at a time at low speed to avoid flour covering everything in sight. :)
Beat until batter is thick and batter rises up on beaters of mixers.
Add anise flavoring and anise seeds and continue to beat until batter is smooth and slightly firm. (extra flour may be added to firm up batter)
Refrigerate batter for several hours to make manageable and resembles cookie dough.
Spray iron with butter spray a few minutes before starting to bake.
Drop onto hot pizzelle baking iron with spoons. Approximately 1 inch balls.
bake until color is tan or light brown or to your liking.
