2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups quick-cooking oats, uncooked
2 cups corn flakes

Directions:

Combine the first 4 ingredients and set aside. Cream shortening and sugars; beat in eggs and vanilla. Add flour mixture, mixing well. Stir in oats and corn flakes. Drop by heaping tablespoons onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 325º for 12-14 min. Cookies will sink and flatten when they are removed from the oven. Cool slightly on cookie sheets; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

During Dad's first year as director of OPS, he got a nice budget passed for the DAs. In the previous years the budget was always reduced, causing services to be cut and people let go. This year a budget of 6 million was passed. During the celebration someone brought these homemade cookies and Dad named them $6 million cookies!
