1 pkg yellow cake mix
1 (small pkg.) instant coconut cream pudding mix
1/2 c. butter or softened margarine
1 slightly beaten egg
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar (packed)
1/4 c. water
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
1 - 8 oz. pkg. pitted dates (cut with scissors to equal 1 1/3 cups)
1/2 c. walnuts
Cool Whip for topping

Directions:
Directions:
In large mixing bowl, combine dry cake mix, dry pudding mix, butter or margarine and the "first" egg. Beat at low speed of electric mixer just till crumbly, about 1 minute. Reserve 1/2 cup of this crumb mixture. Press remaining mixture into bottom of greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Bake @ 350º for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, combine flour, brown sugar, water and the remaining 2 eggs, the vanilla and salt; beat till smooth; stir in dates and nuts and carefully spread over base. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. Bake in 350º oven for 20 - 25 minutes. Cool. Serve with Cool Whip.
