½ C. shortening
1½ C. sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp. cocoa
1- 2 ounce red food coloring
2½ C. cake flour
1 tsp. salt
1 C. buttermilk
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream fat, eggs, and sugar.
Make paste of cocoa and part of food coloring to creamed mixture.
Sift flour, salt, and alternate with buttermilk.
Add vinegar.
Stir in baking soda and vanilla; mix well.
Bake in oblong pan,
Bake 350º.
Put white butter icing on top.
