1 lb. flour (4½ c.)
1 lb. sugar (2¼ c.)
1 lb.butter, scant (4 sticks less 1 tbsp.)
1 lb. eggs, separated (10)
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. nutmeg
¼ c. lemon juice or 2 tbsp. Brandy

Directions:
Directions:
Separate egg yolks from whites into separate bowls. Beat egg yolks well. Beat egg whites until they stand in stiff peaks.

Sift together flour, baking powder and nutmeg.

Cream butter in large mixing bowl. Add sugar and cream until VERY fluffy.

Add lemon juice (or Brandy) and well-beaten egg yolks. Beat thoroughly.

Fold in stiff egg whites. Fold in flour mixture.

Pour into two (2) greased, paper lined loaf pans.

Bake at 300º - 325º for 1¼ - 1½ hours.
