1¼ c. margarine (2½ sticks)
¾ c. brown sugar, firmly packed
½ c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1½ c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt (optional)
1 tsp. cinnamon (optional)
¼ tsp. nutmeg (optional)
3 c. Quaker Quick Oats©, or Quaker Old Fashioned Oars (uncooked)

Directions:

Beat margarine and sugars until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
Add combined flour, baking soda, salt and spices; mix well. Stir in oats.
Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375º. Bake 8-9 minutes for a chewy cookie, 10-11 minutes for a crisp cookie.
Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet, remove to wire rack. Store tightly covered.

Yes, I really did just copy the recipe off the old oatmeal box. Don't Judge! I used this recipe for years with excellent results. As for the (optionals)- salt is up to your taste... I recommend you DO use the cinnamon... Nutmeg is truly optional. You might opt to leave out the spices if you are adding a package of butterscotch bits to the dough... one of my kids especially likes them. Oh, and I actually did peel the label off that cylindrical container and cut out the recipe... too lazy to write it all out!
