CHICKEN:
4 to 5 lb. chicken
3 teaspoons salt
Celery leaves
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 small onion chopped
1 small bay leaf

DUMPLINGS:
1 cup sifted flour
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons melted butter
3 teaspoons baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
1. Boil chicken and remove from bone.
2. Place in big kettle with seasoning
3. Cover with boiling water (or chicken broth) and simmer gently until tender (2 to 3 hours)
4. Arrange dumplings (recipe below) around pieces of stewed chicken
5. Thicken gravy, if necessary with a little cornstarch mixed into a small amount of water.

DUMPLINGS:
1. Stir dry ingredients together in bowl.
2. Stir in milk and butter
3. Drop by spoonfuls into chicken in boiling stock
4. Cook ten minutes more with the kettle tightly covered.
