7 oz. package dates (cut up)
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup water
3 tbsp. flour
Mix flour with sugar, add other ingredients and cook until thick. (Cool)

Cookie Dough:
1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup (chopped fine) walnuts
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 tsp soda in 1/2 cup warm water
4 cups flour (or a little more)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix as usual. Place a teaspoonful of dough on greased cookie sheet and make a hole with blunt object. Fill hole with filling and put 1/2 tsp. of dough on top and bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
