Ingredients: 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 cup melted butter 1/2 cup warm water (I let the hot tap water run a few minutes) 2 packages active dry yeast 2 large eggs, beaten 4 1/2 cup all purpose flour
add additional flour as needed and butter to top the rolls when done

Directions:1. Bring just to a boil and remove from heat immediately. Stir in sugar, salt, and butter. Set aside and allow to cool to lukewarm. 2. In a large bowl mix warm water and yeast. Stir until dissolved. Stir in lukewarm milk mixture, beaten eggs, and half the flour. Beat until smooth. 3. Add remaining flour 1/4 cup at a time. 4. Knead dough on floured board until smooth and elastic. 5. Butter the inside of a large mixing bowl. Put dough in bowl, put in a warm place and cover so dough can rise. (about 1 hour or until doubled in size). 6. Once dough has doubled in size punch it down and place on a lightly floured board. 7. Shape into balls using about 2-3 tablespoons of dough. Place each dough ball into a buttered muffin tin or baking pan. (for bootie rolls place 2 balls of dough in each muffin tin) 8. Cover allow to rise in a warm place until doubled in size (1-3 hours depending on temperature and humidity) 9. Preheat oven to 375º when rolls are about 10 minutes from being ready for baking. 10. Bake rolls for 12-20 minutes. Rolls should be golden brown. 11. Brush tops of rolls with melted butter immediately when removed from oven. |
