1 lb dried green split peas, rinsed
2 medium carrots, peeled and medium diced
2 medium celery stalks, medium diced
1/2 medium yellow onions, medium diced
2 medium garlic cloves, minced
2 fresh italian parsley sprigs
1 bay leaf
1 meaty smoked ham bone or 2 ham hocks or 2 cups cubed fully cooked ham
4 cups chicken broth
2 cups water
kosher salt & black pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a 4 or 5 qt slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8 - 10 hours or 5 - 6 hours on high until peas are tender.

Pull out ham bones and let cool until cool enough to handle. Remove meat from bones and place meat back in soup.

Salt and pepper to taste.

Sometimes I will put some diced potatoes in the crock pot also.
If you like the soup with a smoother consistency, you can run the soup through a blender before putting boned ham back into soup.
