Ingredients:
Ingredients:
4 slices Challah Bread (or similar egg bread), 1-inch thick
2 eggs
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon sugar or maple syrup (optional)
Pinch salt
Oil and unsalted butter as needed

Directions:
Directions:
Put the bread in a pan in a single layer. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar/maple syrup and salt. Pour over the bread. Turn the bread over. Cover and put in the refrigerator overnight. The next morning, heat a heavy skillet over medium heat. Add 1 teaspoon oil and 1 teaspoon unsalted butter. When the butter has melted and sizzles, add the soaked bread and cook on both sides until browned. Add more oil and/or butter as needed.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Once I found out the best French toast is made from Challah bread, or bread made with egg, I started making my own bread in order to make French toast! I have included my Challah bread recipe if that is something you would like to do. I soak the bread overnight in the refrigerator. That way all the egg mixture gets absorbed.
