Turkey Dinner Recipe

12-lb. turkey
3 c. rice
5 c. water
1 T. salt
1/4 chopped onion

Directions:
Thaw turkey overnight in sink covered in cold water at least 10 hours. Pull out neck and giblets. Wash turkey and lay in roaster.

Boil 3 c. rice in 5 c. water with 1 T. salt and 1/4 chopped onion.

Boil giblets with chopped onion, salt and pepper in 1 c. water. Blend in blender. This is used with Granny's Bread Dressing (recipe below).

Stuff turkey with rice. Make foil bowl in roaster to catch overflow of rice. Make another large foil bowl on side of turkey to spoon bread dressing in. Blend 2 c. water with 1/4 onion. Pour over turkey.

Salt and pepper turkey and water in pan. There should be an inch of water for sure on bottom of pan. Add water, salt and pepper as needed during roasting.

Roast 325 covered for 4-5 hours until golden brown, 180 on meat thermometer. Baste after 1 hour, then ever 30-45 minutes. Uncover final 60-90 minutes to brown turkey.

Make mashed potatoes recipe, gravy recipe, cranberry Jell-O salad recipe. Corn, relish trays, buns, chocolate and peach pies.

Granny's Bread Dressing

1 loaf or pkg. dry bread crumbs
2 eggs
1 qt. milk
2 stalks celery
1 c. water
Giblets
Onion
Salt
Pepper

Soak bread and milk together. Let set.

Boil giblets, salt, pepper and onions on stove in 1 c. water until cooked. Blend in blender until pureed.

Pour puree over bread crumbs. Add salt and pepper. Add additional chopped onion if desired. Cut in celery. Add 2 eggs. Mix together. Add more seasoning.
