1 c. shortening 1 c. sugar
2 c. sugar 1 c. whipping cream
4 beaten egg yolks ½ c. butter
1 bar German's sweet chocolate 3 beaten eggs
4 egg whites ¼ tsp. salt
½ c. boiling water 1 c. nuts
2½ c. sifted flour 1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda
½ tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Cream shortening with sugar. Add beaten egg yolks; beat well. Melt German's sweet chocolate in boiling water and allow to cool. Sift flour with soda and salt. Mix dry ingredients into creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Mix in chocolate and vanilla. Beat egg whites stiff and fold into batter. Bake in 3 layers 30 to 35 minutes at 350º.

For Icing, cook sugar, whipping cream, butter, egg yolks and salt together until thick. Remove from heat and add nuts and vanilla. Beat until slightly cooled and spread between layers and over top.
